Thank you for visiting our website. We hope you will find answers to your questions and useful information throughout.
Our motto/vision is "Expect Excellence," and we strive to do our best daily. We have a rich tradition of excellence in academics, athletics and the arts, and we have high expectations for ourselves and our students. We are proud of our students, teachers, coaches, and club sponsors, and we achieve not only at the local and state levels, but also nationally.
A recent review of our test scores revealed that we were the top-performer on more tests than any other district in our Heart of Georgia RESA region. Our school district leads our RESA and the Middle Georgia area in CCRPI scores, and our schools led the RESA in school-level CCRPI scores. Our middle school was number one on 11 of 12 assessments based upon passing percentages and number two on the 12th assessment. Our middle school also was the only school in our RESA district with a 5-star School Climate Rating.
Students from our high school placed second nationally in the 4-H Shotgun competition, losing out to an all-star team from all counties in Texas. Our boys cross country team won the 2015 State Class AA Championship, and our top runner, Carl Ellis Corley, was the individual State Class AA Champ. He also won the 2016 state individual title in the 1600. Our high school athletics team placed 1st in Region 4AA in the Director's Cup standings, and 3rd among all public schools in AA in the state of Georgia. We have sent a number of students who were state winners in Beta Club and 4-H Archery to Nationals, and our FFA club will take two teams to nationals in October 2016.
Even our nutrition department was recently recognized as one of only 12 districts in the state (out of 180) receiving the "Gold Level Golden Radish" award for using locally grown food in our school lunchrooms. Our nutrition department also was recently the only in the state to be named "One in a Melon" for farm-to-school activities. See state and national data here: https://farmtoschoolcensus.fns.usda.gov/find-your-school-district/georgia.
Our high school mascot is the "Royals," our middle school mascot is the "Barons," and all members of our student body, faculty, staff, and administration are part of the "Royal Family."
One of our goals for this year has been to increase transparency in our finances, policies and actions. We invite you to view our new eBoard site, where you can find board meeting agendas, presentations, financial reports, and meeting minutes. Go to: https://eboard.eboardsolutions.com/bleckley to view the site. At the "Meetings" tab, click on your desired meeting and the agenda will appear. Clicking on agenda items will reveal any supporting documentation, and the last item on each agenda will be the draft minutes for that meeting. We also launched a Twitter feed that updates our website automatically. Follow us @bleckleyschools to find out about school closings and other important matters affecting our students, staff and community.
One of our greatest challenges is to have students at school all day, every day. Employers will not tolerate chronic tardies and absences, and we want each student to have a good work ethic. We need the help of all parents, grandparents and stakeholders to remind students just how important timeliness and attendance are to success in all phases of life, including school.
